The Squirrel This Morning

This morning as I glanced out to see the who was visiting
the bird feeders I spotted this squirrel way up in the tree.
I couldn't figure out what he was eating.
Could it be bark from the tree?
What could it be?

Whatever it was, he seemed happy with it.

Another Big Blizzard

So cold and so much snow…
I sprinkled bird seed on the surface of the snow
for the birds and squirrels.

We have regulars at the bird feeders
this winter.
Today we saw the starlings, blue jays,
tufted titmouse, sparrows, juncos, cardinals,
chickadees, starlings and finches.

Getting harder to dig out!

Snowy Day and Feeding the Wildlife

We are in the midst of a 2 day snow storm.
We are feeding the birds and whoever is hungry in our yard.

To our surprise this little critter appeared.
I first I spotted him in the bird feeder several days ago
when it was actually sunny outside.
From a distance I was wondering
what kind of bird that was, thought maybe a tufted titmouse.

Upon closer inspection I realized it was a mouse.

When a gray squirrel startled it, the mouse jumped down
swiftly ran over tall snow banks and under the porch.

Here is Mr. or Mrs. Mouse this afternoon
in our snowstorm.

Josie's New Winter Entertainment

The other night I discovered a
cat app for the iPad.

It's a mouse that moves around the screen
and squeaks when one taps it.

Josie does like it. She demurely studied it
for quite some time, then gently tapped it.
She was so gentle it didn't make a sound.
Eventually we heard the squeak and even
saw her trying to bite it.

Looking Out For the Winter Wildlife

Josie is fascinated and excited
by what she observes outside her windows this winter.

I feel the same way….

We try to make sure the food for the critters doesn't sink
beneath the snow and squash seeds are a special treat.
