September afternoon

A beautiful, clear cool day...
and I spotted this dragonfly who paused long enough
to capture its delicate beauty with my camera.

End of August

A lovely surprise in the marsh, a juvenile Night Heron
appeared briefly and vanished into the reeds.

In the evening, Josie ran to the window to stalk something.
I thought it was probably an insect the way she cautiously
crept up upon it. From my vantage point I couldn't see what it was
so I quietly went over to investigate.
Sitting on the outside of the window sill was a tiny frog.
It eventually climbed all over the outside of the window
and it was amazing to see how it stuck with suction as it
traveled and we got a view of the underside.

This and That

This morning Josie was in her heart shaped basket.
She is so very sweet...

Down by the ocean we love to observe the
baby eider ducks with their mom.

Josie May

Josie's first day home...27 May.
She stayed in the basket for the longest time
watching the birds and chipmunks.

Day two and she seemed very comfy. Getting her used to
one room at a time.
(she was recovering from surgery)

We opened the couch so we could spend the nights
with her.

She loves all kinds of baskets...and we have plenty of them
which our other cats had enjoyed.

First day upstairs, June 1st...and she slept on our bed.

Josie jumped down into the stair window...

In the early morning she had jumped up to the bedroom
window to watch birds fly by...

D was delighted that she snuggled up on a pillow on his lap.

Here she is among the others adopted around the same time
from the Animal Shelter:

After we made the decision to adopt her, a staff member
placed a red collar on her.
She had to stay at the shelter few days before
we could bring her home.
Though she's only been here nearly
2 weeks we feel like we've known her
so much longer.  She continues to surprise us
with her sweet and unique personality.

So lovely....

A New Addtition to Our Family

Meet Josie May...a year old cat from the shelter
that is healing us and bring joy after losing our
beloved Brody 2 months ago.
She is very sweet, gentle and delightful
and we have fallen in love with her.
She has only been here a few days and seems to feel
right at home.
And by the way, she loves baskets!

Little Red

This is such an adorable red squirrel, it seems
very young to me. As you can see it has figured
out how to get through the squirrel proof cage
that surrounds the bird feeder.

I wish it well!

Winter Robins and Squirrels

My heart goes out to the robins and other wildlife
who are enduring this very cold and snowy winter.

This particular squirrel is very inquisitive
and persistent in attempts to get the
sunflower seeds inside a squirrel proof cage.

A Discovery

Such a cold day but sunny and clear...
we were out looking at nature and I thought I saw
something way out on the rocks... thinking perhaps
it was a bird.

When enlarging my  photo I discovered this:

a lovely seal sunning himself!

A storm will be upon us tomorrow and I hope
everyone stays safe!

Dove & Cardinal and Brody

So many different birds have visited
our bird feeders this winter and many pick up the seeds
that fall into the snow.
It makes for interesting couples.
I just finished this painting of the dove and the cardinal who
are companionable as they search for food.
You can also see it over here
and it is available as a print.

Brody found some entertainment on the iPad...
an aquarium!
It held his attention for a little bit!

Light Snow and Snowy Owl 2nd Painting

The birds left delicate prints in the light snow
this morning.

Was a good day to work on my 2nd Snowy owl painting.

You can see a print of this Snowy owl on the chimney
on my website over here.

How I love them!

First Painting of the New Year

I have been so very captivated and
inspired by the
snowy owls we've had the
amazing opportunity to observe
this winter, truly a gift.
This is my first painting of them
and the first painting that I began
yesterday on my birthday.
I love them!

ps. it is also on my website

Their presence has made this
winter very special for us.

Blizzard

So very cold today as the temperatures
hovered in the lower single numbers and
the wind swirled the fine snow.
Much activity at the bird feeders.

Down at the beach was quiet.
Sea smoke rose from the ocean which is
a rare sight.

A group of small gulls had gathered on the
beach and some were asleep. They must
have helped each other conserve energy by
being close together.

First Day of the New Year

To our amazement this morning we saw 2 eagles
gliding overhead as I was observing a kingfisher
on the first day of the new year....
