While driving up to Portland yesterday to stock up on staples at TJ's with D we were traveling down the highway when something caught my eye.
I saw a crow flying towards a bird on the very top of a pine tree. As we approached but unable to stop I recognized the bird to be a hawk. Our exit came up immediately so D quickly found a place to park where we still had a view of the highway through a chain link fence.
This is what I saw... (notice the little tree in the middle, way in the distance, it is on the other side of the highway)
Yesterday afternoon, I noticed something very large in the sky gliding over the Kennebunk River in Kennebunkport. It was too big for a gull and many other birds and duck had flown by just before its' arrival.
Upon closer inspection, we realized it was an eagle!
The other night I found myself taking all of the mismatched sheets that I've used to cover our 30 year old couch off... I felt the couch needed another makeover... what to do.... I remembered I had some large brown sheets and two of them managed to cover the couch and with other things I've saved over the years such as pillows, pillow shams and blankets our shabby old couch now has a new look. It's not at all fancy but it gives the room a very cozy and comfy feeling! Brody loves it and looks so handsome on it!
Sometimes the simplest things can bring much happiness.
How did she know...cats are so intuitive. I really needed to finish a pet portrait soon and it happens to be of a cat. Ellie May sat on me this morning so I had no excuse to wander away and get distracted with another project.
Somehow I managed to balance the drawing pad on the arm of the chair while Ellie May sat on my lap.
I actually nearly finished it and I thank Ellie May so much for her calm and steady presence that helped to keep me focused!
Yesterday D and I took a little walk on the beach and noticed 2 young gulls walking together... they were poking in the sand looking for food and ended up with autumn leaves that had washed ashore! Looks like they are still learning about what to eat!
They were and crying out!
Well, we happened to have some oyster crackers in the car to give them but it also attracted all of the other gulls in the area!
Before we knew it they were catching them in mid-air!
We harvested the potatoes in our vegetable garden on Thursday just in time for today is a rainy day. There was quite an abundance of potatoes this year and Brody is looking at the excess that I brought upstairs to dry out. To see more just click here!
Could use some advice on how to store them for the winter!
Would love some new potato recipes...do you have any favorites?
Was a lovely day for Ellie May to spend the afternoon on her porch at the studio... Just opposite her in a nest at the top of the arbor on the side of our house were 2 adorable baby doves. All day long I kept peeking in on them.
I've been worried about them for it is already October and I am hoping the weather will continue to be nice enough to give them the time they need to grow and fly!
I'm an artist/illustrator specializing in ink and watercolors and photography. My little studio in Maine is nestled in our garden by a babbling brook. Everyday I draw inspiration from the pets who have touched my life, our garden, birds and wildlife critters, quaint old houses, children, shells, scenes of the seaside and more.
Hope to share my art and observations with you and don't forget to take a moment to notice the precious little things around you.
