The Sea and the Marsh

Friday was clear and cool as we saw the eider
family swim by...

Across the street in the marsh
this beautiful Great Egret was hidden
in the reeds.

Love these moments...

Luna and Moon

To our surprise this afternoon, we saw
an exquisite Luna moth
on the outside wall of a bank in town!
Someone said it had been there a few days!

Another surprise was seeing 3 little baby eiders
this evening just before the rising of the full moon.

thanks and I hope you enjoy the photos!

Birds Along the Coast

Saw a flash of yellow disappear into the bushes
last night while taking a walk along the coast.
Waiting patiently for the briefest glimpse, for
this bird is in constant motion, I was able to
take one photo.
It's a yellow warbler.

Such a calm evening...thankful it was cooler
on the coast for the temperatures reached the
mid 80's ...
While gazing at the moon, we watched seabirds
head back to their island for the night.
Here's a cormorant.

...and the night herons are beginning their day...

Ellie May Catching a Breeze

Tuesday felt like a hot summer day..
the sea breeze
in the afternoon helped so we could open
the window to cool the upstairs a bit.

Ellie May found the best spot!

Planting Seeds

D has been starting vegetable seeds
in peat cups...
He has an inspector, named Brody,
who is making sure he did it correctly.

Looks like everything is fine with this
tray.

If you have a garden, how is it doing?

Resting from a Baby Shower

On Sunday afternoon, Ellie May and I attended
a wonderful Baby Shower for my niece...we were
there via skype... Ellie got a bit tired so she took a
little cat nap while R opened gifts...

Magical Moments

The first hummingbird appeared in our garden this afternoon...
it was a magical moment...
the male ruby throated hummingbird
flew by just as I was in deep though about someone dear...
Had been concerned about the hummingbirds and hoping
that they had a safe journey North.
Then I saw the her, another hummingbird drinking
from the blue comfrey flowers.

The mourning doves have built another nest
on the other side of our house in another arbor.

The Chickadee gathering strands of rope
to line a nest...

When I took a walk later in the day saw the terns fishing!

Also saw a young cedar waxwing.

Saturday was a such beautiful day for birds...

The Cat in the Window

Whenever we are on Summer Street
in Kennebunk, we look for this beautiful
cat in the window and sure enough tonight
on our way home from the grocery store
we saw this dear little face looking out!

Empty Nest

Was a sunny Monday morning, the baby
mourning dove was sitting in the nest in the arbor
all alone...

By mid-day, the baby was sitting above the nest
on the top railing of the arbor...

and then by the afternoon, the nest was empty...

We found the baby and the Mama Dove sitting
in the grass near the vegetable garden.

We were worried about their safety on the ground...

Next time we looked they were way up on the top
of another unfinished arbor in the yard...

Later they disappeared and we hope they found
a safe warm place to spend the night.
The temperature was going to be in the lower 40's
overnight.

Ducklings

By chance, we spotted a duck family
on Friday... so lovely to watch!

Feathered Friends

On Thursday we were taking a scenic ride
home from Portland along the coast when we
spotted this threesome.

They appear to be best friends and
it was so heartwarming!

A Baby Dove

This afternoon as I looked up into the arbor
to check on the Mama Dove,
I thought I saw something else
with her so I went around to the other side
and sure enough, there was her baby.
She is very protective and soon the baby
was out of sight, tucked under Mama.
They were so beautiful together.
Hope they all stay safe.

Brody and the Sparrow

Brody loves the little shelf on the porch for
checking out the wildlife!

Can you see what he's trying to see?

Over on the left side is a sparrow...

Here's a better look!
