Chickadee

It was 1 degree earlier this morning, the sun is shining
so it has warmed up a little. Fluffed up to keep warm,
this chickadee is about to fly to the bird feeder for a
sunflower seed !

Soaring

The gulls were hovering over the ocean as the
wind picked up this afternoon...they were so beautiful
to watch and I was thrilled to be able to
look down upon them from a higher
vantage point and to capture the moment with my camera.

Contemplation and Camouflage

Yesterday was a day of contemplation...
the quiet and peacefulness of the snow crept inside.

While outside, I happened to startle the gray squirrel
who was filling up at the bird feeder...he leapt to the
nearby crabapple tree and seemed to disappear...
can you see him?

well,
here's a close up!

Snowed In!

It looks as though Ellie May
is snowed in...patiently waiting
and watching... breakfast was
being delivered after I got a bit
side-tracked with the beauty of
the snow and my camera!

Another Snowy Day

Ellie May and I spent the day inside working
on art, watching the snow gently fall and keeping
an eye on the birds visiting the yard in search of food...
we have sunflower seeds, suet and apples to offer.

A Snowy Day for the Birds

The apples left behind on the trees are
providing sustenance for the robins...
while the Blue Jays are taking turns
with the suet cake, although one seems to
be in control of it!

It's now late afternoon and the snow has stopped...
this darling bird is ready to take flight!

Who's Living in the Attic?

This morning I heard sounds on the roof while
I was working upstairs in my studio.
Had noticed with the latest snowfalls, some tracks
on the roof...hmmm, who could that be!

As I looked out at the dolgo crab apple tree
beside the window, I noticed some goldfinches
eating the crab apples.

and then I saw her or him...
our red squirrel must have taken up residence
in the attic again for I have been hearing commotion
in the attic for quite some time and didn't know who
was up there. Several autumn's ago, Dave had blocked
the outside entrances to the attic but he evidently
missed something!

What's This Little Dog Watching

On Saturday, January 9th, at Gooch's Beach
in Kennebunk, Maine many people gathered for
a special event to raise money for a
charity. This little dog had a great view from the
warmth of his car for the temperature outside was
about 15 degrees F.
Click here to see what all the commotion was about!

Christmas Cactus

Our Christmas Cactus has some lovely blossoms
but Brody loves to nibble the green ends on one side
so only the opposite side is blooming!

The Robins Are Here!

Flocks of robins have landed in our apple trees this
morning...they should be in the south during the
winter and I wonder why they are here in snowy
Maine in early January!

Out on the Porch

After I shoveled my way over to see Ellie May
with her breakfast, she dashed out onto the
porch to check it out for a few minutes before
retreating back inside the studio to the warmth
and a cozy nap.
