along the coast.

She was very concerned!

Wishes for the new year

Bluebirds visited us in Maine

a few days ago...

hope they are a symbol of happiness

in 2018 along with kindness,

peace, contentment and good health 

for all.

 

The juncos along with blue jays, chickadees, nuthatches,

sparrows, cedar waxwings, tufted titmouse, starlings, cardinals,

woodpeckers, mourning doves, gray squirrels 

and the little red squirrel are visitors.

We try to make sure they all have food.

Peanuts are a favorite of the blue jays and squirrels.

It was -13 this morning.

 

 

 Here is the white-throated sparrow

taking shelter in the snow covered rhododendron.

I love painting birds.

A Surprise Appearance

What a surprise to see this Barred Owl

sitting on a birdhouse in a field we

pass on our way home on this very

cold winter late afternoon as twilight

approaches.

Josie loves cotton throws...

as a winter chill permeates the outside air.

Through the Mist

After the rain last night a mist gently lifted up from the 

marsh enveloping the Great Blue Heron.

Mystery

A mysterious pile of sand appeared

at the bottom of the steps yesterday

afternoon.

I had noticed a wide furry black tail disappear into
the side wall.
It wasn't a chipmunk or red squirrel.
Who could it be.

While waiting quietly at the bottom of the steps, 

I noticed a tiny movement in the corner of the

 bottom step and then I saw the culprit.

a very industrious baby woodchuck!

Bird Song

It's a joy seeing and hearing the Song Sparrow sing...

Late April Snow

Blue Jays love peanuts!

A chipping sparrow fluffed up to keep warm.

Robins in the snow on Monday

The snow looked so magical on Monday...

the robins were eating the sumac

lovely to see....

The First Day of Spring

On the first day of spring, we saw a graceful swan!

Through the Window

Saw the first robin of the year today in our yard.

After the snowstorm of yesterday

we had a flurry of birds at the feeders.

Among them was the tufted titmouse.

The nuthatch stopped by...

along with the downy woodpecker.

There were many others including

the cardinals, chickadees, white throated sparrow,

blue jays, doves and red-bellied woodpecker.

I was wondering if our resident little red squirrel

would be able to navigate through the snow

for it was very fluffy and I thought it would sink.

Just as I was thinking that little red appeared in a

hole in the snow!

Was so happy to see him or her.

Snowing!

Unexpected snow today…was glued to the window

watching the birds and critters.

Yellow-rumped Warbler Watercolor

I love the yellow-rumped warbler  and

I am always so delighted when I can see this beautiful, sweet little bird

along the coast.

Inspired to paint it with my new watercolors.

New Watercolors

I am so excited to try out my new watercolors 

that I got for my birthday…

They have a different effect on the paper

than I am used to.
 I love using these colors to
achieve a soft subtle feeling.

A Gift

On this special day I was so fortunate and delighted to see 

the snowy owl …it was a magical gift.

The Birds and the First Snow

The first snow of the season and some of the birds who

visited our yard...

Spotted a pair of mergansers in the rain….

and along the shore this happy dog was a very good 

frisbee player.
