Blizzard

So very cold today as the temperatures
hovered in the lower single numbers and
the wind swirled the fine snow.
Much activity at the bird feeders.

Down at the beach was quiet.
Sea smoke rose from the ocean which is
a rare sight.

A group of small gulls had gathered on the
beach and some were asleep. They must
have helped each other conserve energy by
being close together.

Oyster Crackers For The Gulls!

Yesterday D and I took a little walk on the
beach and noticed 2 young gulls walking
together... they were poking in the sand looking
for food and ended up with
autumn leaves that had washed ashore!
Looks like they are still learning about what to eat!

They were and crying out!

Well, we happened to have some oyster crackers
in the car to give them but it also attracted all of
the other gulls in the area!

Before we knew it they were catching them in
mid-air!

What a sight and I'm so glad my camera was handy!

Soaring

The gulls were hovering over the ocean as the
wind picked up this afternoon...they were so beautiful
to watch and I was thrilled to be able to
look down upon them from a higher
vantage point and to capture the moment with my camera.

Eiders and Sea Roses

A dramatic sky led us to the beach
early yesterday evening...
to see more sky and sea, click here.

After a brief rain with lightning,
the sky lightened a bit and further
down the beach, and to my delight,
I spotted them;
the eiders teaching their young.

As we rounded the corner, there
were more babies, the young gulls
were lined up by the edge of the sea.

Gulls

Was a sunny clear day, someone fed
bread to the gulls and we were lucky enough
to have a front row seat.
( It was a comical situation for there were
people with their dogs also on the beach
in the vicinity of the bread.
The gulls were circling above the bread but were
afraid to land because of the dogs and the dogs
were eating the bread!)
