The Hawk

Yesterday morning before the storm
we were driving on Rte. 1 in southern
Maine when a very large bird flew by the windshield.
Our eyes followed it's flight across the road and
we noticed it had landed high in a pine tree.
D pulled over on the side of the road,
 rolled down his window
as I grabbed my camera.
It was so majestic!

The Wildlife Around Me Today

Chippy has appeared from hibernation early!

Soaring over near the beach
the light caught the wings of this
magnificent hawk.

Over at our bird feeder we put out
some clementines and I seem to
have captured a chickadee in flight!

Oh, and yesterday this red squirrel was hitching
a ride on a turtle!

Have you noticed any interesting things
in nature?

Monday, October 10th

Monday, October 10th
turned out very beautiful
as nature played a part in
making our anniversary special.

In the morning by the sea a hawk soared overhead...

while below a cormorant was coming in for a landing.

Back at home, D discovered this cricket that has had
us puzzled for weeks for we thought the chirp it vocalized
was a baby bird.

In the evening as we waited for the full moon
to rise the sandpipers were busy along the shore.

A magical moment as a gull flew by
the moon.

The Unexpected!

While driving up to Portland yesterday
to stock up on staples at TJ's
with D we were traveling down the
highway when something caught my eye.

I saw a crow flying towards a bird
on the very top of a pine tree.
As we approached but unable to stop
I recognized the bird to be a hawk.
Our exit came up immediately so D quickly
found a place to park where we still had
a view of the highway through a chain link fence.

This is what I saw...
(notice the little tree in the middle, way
in the distance, it is on the other side of the
highway)

zooming in...

Birds on a Cold Afternoon

Yesterday afternoon while doing errands,
I spotted this gull nestled on top of a chimney.
What a smart thing to do on an especially
cold wintry day in Maine!

D spotted this hawk who landed on a telephone pole
and when I was about to take a photo the hawk flew
to the wire.

How magnificent he looked as the wind ruffled
his feathers!

Hawk Sighting

My sister and I were taking a walk around the block
when a large bird flew over head and landed in a
nearby tree. Upon closer inspection it was
a magnificent hawk!

It rested for a minute and flew off...

Hawk

Saw a crow chasing a large bird this morning
and it landed in a tree.
I believe it's a red tail hawk but I didn't know
they could be so big.
