Look What the Gull Fished Out of the River

Early this evening found us sitting on a bench
where the river meets the sea...so serene.
A favorite spot! You can take a look by clicking here.
Noticed a gull dive into the river and I assumed
that what it caught was a fish.
As the gull flew to the rocky shore
with it's catch I got a better look and
discovered it was an apple! I never knew
gulls dined on apples and this one really seemed
to enjoy it!

That's funny! I've never seen a gull with an apple either!

I haven't seen that either! A lovely photo though and I love the Cormorant in your previous post, when they (and Herons) stand like that they always look lonely to me!

I also loved Marge the ring-bearer on an earlier post, what a lovely idea!

Apologies for being rather neglectful lately, it is such a job to keep up with all the lovely blogs!

I just had to pop back... how bizarre! I just went back to my blog and found a comment from you!! It must be some sort of telepathy ;) Strangely enough the same thing has happened with two other blogland friends in the past!

Willoughby,
I was fascinated watching the gull and the apple, it even picking it up and dipped it in the water, maybe to soften it!

ShySongbird,
So good to hear from you!
How amazing that we should leave comments on each others blogs at around the same time after being away for some time!

Our crows love to eat apples, but then also manage to find the odd sandwich, piece of fruit, cake and any number of odd things! But then that's crows for you :)

I did click and saw the beautiful spot you referred to. Gorgeous!
How funny to see the gull with an apple!!
I guess other birds eat fruits and berries, but this must be a treat for a gull!!

It's funny, we've seen gulls hanging out at the Clam Shack waiting for someone to drop a french fry or delectable morsel of fried seafood and have observed them flying in groups from the far corners of the beach when people feed them bread, even saw a gull steal a bag of potato chips from a small child and fly off with it in its'beak but never had I seen one with an apple that it had found floating down the river to the sea!
