Empty Nest

Was a sunny Monday morning, the baby
mourning dove was sitting in the nest in the arbor
all alone...

By mid-day, the baby was sitting above the nest
on the top railing of the arbor...

and then by the afternoon, the nest was empty...

We found the baby and the Mama Dove sitting
in the grass near the vegetable garden.

We were worried about their safety on the ground...

Next time we looked they were way up on the top
of another unfinished arbor in the yard...

Later they disappeared and we hope they found
a safe warm place to spend the night.
The temperature was going to be in the lower 40's
overnight.

Oh Nan, this gave me a lump in my throat. Mama's and their young are so much the same. Such good photos!

Lori ann,
Thanks and I feel the same way... it really touches my heart to see any mama bird, animal, person and their young for you can see the same caring, protective, loving feeling in all.

We are getting a warm up here. If it is headed your way, you are in for some hot weather next week.

I agree, this time of the year is pretty dangerous for birds, especially the babies that don't fly well yet. I'm keeping my cat inside all the time. It seems your dove flies fairly well, hope he will be ok.

Marnie,
Oh no, I hope the really hot weather stays away! We did see the baby dove again yesterday in a different spot...today it's been rainy and no sign of any of the doves...
hoping all is well!
