Hawk

Saw a crow chasing a large bird this morning
and it landed in a tree.
I believe it's a red tail hawk but I didn't know
they could be so big.

You seem to be doing a lot of bird watching, Nan, and how quick you are with your camera!
Great photos!!

Judy, I'm always on the lookout for birds and critters etc...though my parents house is in the suburbs, there is a little bit of activity.
They have 5 birdhouses inhabited by sparrows hanging under the overhang in the front. I had just happened to glance through the upstairs window this morning when I noticed the hawk, so I grabbed my camera and flew down the stairs and out into the driveway and just managed to take a few photos before it flew away.

Great pic, Nan! I agree that it's a red tail. The females tend to be larger than the males...and both are pretty fair sized birds! There's a guy who blogs about the red tail hawks (and other birds) that he sees in New York City...some great pictures of the birds feeding, flying, on their nests, etc. http://urbanhawks.blogs.com/urban_hawks/
